Little emily escape simulator6/18/2023 ![]() The game was designed using the platform Scratch. The game is a walking simulator in which the player takes on the role of Juliet and has to complete a series of challenges to reach her happily ever after. We chose to use this song because of the following reasons: we are all fans of Taylor Swift, the story offers a clear narrative for our game, the song is a well-known reference to pop culture, and we liked the additional layer that the game would be a double remediation since the song is already a remediation of a play. Using a song instead of a film allowed us to remediate the entire narrative instead of selecting one small part to represent. Our game is a remediation of the song “Love Story” by Taylor Swift, which itself is a remediation of the play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. ![]() After meeting Romeo, Juliet (you) will have to pass a series of challenges so that she can reach her happily ever after- however you choose to define that- whether it’s love, independence, husband, or cats. The game, a walking simulator, allows the player to take on the role of Juliet. So, we decided to use the platform Scratch, a platform that our lead coder, Marissa, knew how to use. We planned to make our game within the game Roblox but soon ran into a problem- we had no idea how to do that. We all agreed that we wanted to use our game to honor the one and only Taylor Swift, so we decided to choose a song that is as iconic as her, a song that already exists as a remediation of the play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. Lastly, the logo is all black and white because we wanted it to stand out against the colors of our game.Ī bright idea- a double remediation honoring both the Queen of Pop and the King of playwrights. Lastly, we added the words “Love Story” because that is the name of the song we are remediating and the name of the game, so we wanted it to be present in the logo. We added the music note because our game is remediating a song and we wanted some element of that to be present in the logo. We also picked the crown because Taylor Swift is the queen of popular music. We designed this logo to be a crown because Juliet is typically represented as a higher class and sometimes as a princess. It doesn't take itself too seriously and is just a fun way to bond and play with friends and family. Potential for something greaterĮscape Simulator is a great puzzler that is worth considering. There are occasional visual glitches at times, but more importantly, the game does not offer that much in the way of content-thank you, user-generated content. Some community rooms can even host up to 20 people for more chaotic fun. You don't lose out on the multiplayer aspect either since it offers online co-op with up to 3 players. Anything is fair game to help you solve the puzzles and riddles you'll encounter. Examine objects, read text, or move things around. Pretty much anything that is not nailed to a wall can be interacted with. It features 15 rooms that were designed by real-life escape room operators. Where others try for realistic and somewhat clinical presentation, it goes in the opposite direction with a more cartoonish art style.ĭon't let that fool you, though, as Escape Simulator is all about realistic and intriguing puzzles. The first thing that you'll notice is its rather distinct look. Escape rooms are fun and interactive experiences to be had with friends IRL, but that doesn't mean that the same can't be done virtually, and this is exactly what Escape Simulator is trying to achieve.
